Dua for parents from the Quran

After worshipping Allah, the Quran names kindness to parents. Part of that kindness is praying for them, during their lives and after their death. These supplications come straight from the Quran.

Waqada rabbuka alla taʿbudoo illa iyyahu wabialwalidayni ihsanan imma yablughanna ʿindaka alkibara ahaduhuma aw kilahuma fala taqul lahuma offin wala tanharhuma waqul lahuma qawlan kareeman Waikhfid lahuma janaha alththulli mina alrrahmati waqul rabbi irhamhuma kama rabbayanee sagheeran

And your Lord has decreed that you not worship except Him, and to parents, good treatment. Whether one or both of them reach old age [while] with you, say not to them [so much as], "uff," and do not repel them but speak to them a noble word And lower to them the wing of humility out of mercy and say, "My Lord, have mercy upon them as they brought me up [when I was] small

Quran 17:23-24 · Surah Al-Isra · Translation: Saheeh International · Transliteration: Tanzil.net

Rabbirhamhuma

Rabbirhamhuma kama rabbayani saghira

My Lord, have mercy on them as they raised me when I was small.

And We have enjoined upon man, to his parents, good treatment. His mother carried him with hardship and gave birth to him with hardship, and his gestation and weaning [period] is thirty months. [He grows] until, when he reaches maturity and reaches [the age of] forty years, he says, "My Lord, enable me to be grateful for Your favor which You have bestowed upon me and upon my parents and to work righteousness of which You will approve and make righteous for me my offspring. Indeed, I have repented to You, and indeed, I am of the Muslims

Quran 46:15 · Surah Al-Ahqaf · Translation: Saheeh International · Transliteration: Tanzil.net

This verse is said by the believer who reaches maturity: gratitude for the blessings given to you and your parents, and a prayer for your own children.

After their death

When a person dies, his deeds come to an end except for three: ongoing charity, knowledge that benefits, or a righteous child who prays for him.

Sahih Muslim

More on honouring parents: kindness to parents.
