Frequently asked questions
Which calculation method is used in India?
Most mosques and timetables in India use the method of the University of Islamic Sciences, Karachi (Fajr and Isha at 18° below the horizon) with the Hanafi Asr. This site uses the same settings; Asr can be switched to the standard (Shafi'i, Maliki, Hanbali) calculation on every city page, and pages for Kerala start with the standard Asr.
Can I see prayer times for my exact location?
Yes. Tap the button at the top of this page and the times are calculated for your position right in your browser, with the nearest listed city. Your location is not sent anywhere.
Why does the Hanafi Asr start later?
In the Hanafi school Asr begins when an object's shadow is twice its length (plus its shadow at noon), in the other schools when it equals its length. Depending on the season the Hanafi Asr in India is about 40–80 minutes later; both are valid, and you can choose either on the city pages.
