Fasting in Ramadan
Fasting Ramadan is one of the five pillars of Islam. The fast runs from dawn (Fajr, imsak) until sunset (Maghrib): no food, drink or marital relations. Sehri is eaten before dawn and the fast is broken at iftar, by the Sunnah with dates or water. The Ramadan guide and the 30 juz help you plan the month.
Frequently asked questions
When does Ramadan 2027 start in India?
In India Ramadan begins when the moon sighting committees (Ruet-e-Hilal) and imams announce the crescent, so regions sometimes start a day apart. The first fast is expected on Tuesday, February 9, 2027, a day after Saudi Arabia, because the crescent is unlikely to be visible over India on the evening of February 7.
When is Eid al-Fitr 2027 in India?
Expected on Wednesday, March 10, 2027: if Ramadan starts on February 8 it has 30 days, because the Shawwal crescent is only a few hours old on the evening of March 8; if it starts on February 9 it ends after 29 days when the moon is seen on March 9. If the moon is missed that evening, Eid is on March 11.
How long are the fasts in Ramadan 2027 in India?
Between 12:11 and 13:10 hours depending on the city and the day: shortest at the start in the south, longest at the end in the north.
