69:1

Alhaqqatu

The Inevitable Reality

69:2

Ma alhaqqatu

What is the Inevitable Reality

69:3

Wama adraka ma alhaqqatu

And what can make you know what is the Inevitable Reality

69:4

Kaththabat thamoodu waʿadun bialqariʿati

Thamud and 'Aad denied the Striking Calamity

69:5

Faamma thamoodu faohlikoo bialttaghiyati

So as for Thamud, they were destroyed by the overpowering [blast]

69:6

Waamma ʿadun faohlikoo bireehin sarsarin ʿatiyatin

And as for 'Aad, they were destroyed by a screaming, violent wind

69:7

Sakhkharaha ʿalayhim sabʿa layalin wathamaniyata ayyamin husooman fatara alqawma feeha sarʿa kaannahum aʿjazu nakhlin khawiyatun

Which Allah imposed upon them for seven nights and eight days in succession, so you would see the people therein fallen as if they were hollow trunks of palm trees

69:8

Fahal tara lahum min baqiyatin

Then do you see of them any remains

69:9

Wajaa firʿawnu waman qablahu waalmutafikatu bialkhatiati

And there came Pharaoh and those before him and the overturned cities with sin

Faʿasaw rasoola rabbihim faakhathahum akhthatan rabiyatan

And they disobeyed the messenger of their Lord, so He seized them with a seizure exceeding [in severity]

Inna lamma tagha almao hamalnakum fee aljariyati

Indeed, when the water overflowed, We carried your ancestors in the sailing ship

Linajʿalaha lakum tathkiratan wataʿiyaha othunun waʿiyatun

That We might make it for you a reminder and [that] a conscious ear would be conscious of it

Faitha nufikha fee alssoori nafkhatun wahidatun

Then when the Horn is blown with one blast

Wahumilati alardu waaljibalu fadukkata dakkatan wahidatan

And the earth and the mountains are lifted and leveled with one blow

Fayawmaithin waqaʿati alwaqiʿatu

Then on that Day, the Resurrection will occur

Wainshaqqati alssamao fahiya yawmaithin wahiyatun

And the heaven will split [open], for that Day it is infirm

Waalmalaku ʿala arjaiha wayahmilu ʿarsha rabbika fawqahum yawmaithin thamaniyatun

And the angels are at its edges. And there will bear the Throne of your Lord above them, that Day, eight [of them]

Yawmaithin tuʿradoona la takhfa minkum khafiyatun

That Day, you will be exhibited [for judgement]; not hidden among you is anything concealed

Faamma man ootiya kitabahu biyameenihi fayaqoolu haomu iqraoo kitabiyah

So as for he who is given his record in his right hand, he will say, "Here, read my record

Innee thanantu annee mulaqin hisabiyah

Indeed, I was certain that I would be meeting my account

Fahuwa fee ʿeeshatin radiyatin

So he will be in a pleasant life

Fee jannatin ʿaliyatin

In an elevated garden

Qutoofuha daniyatun

Its [fruit] to be picked hanging near

Kuloo waishraboo haneean bima aslaftum fee alayyami alkhaliyati

[They will be told], "Eat and drink in satisfaction for what you put forth in the days past

Waamma man ootiya kitabahu bishimalihi fayaqoolu ya laytanee lam oota kitabiyah

But as for he who is given his record in his left hand, he will say, "Oh, I wish I had not been given my record

Walam adri ma hisabiyah

And had not known what is my account

Ya laytaha kanati alqadiyatu

I wish my death had been the decisive one

Ma aghna ʿannee maliyah

My wealth has not availed me

Halaka ʿannee sultaniyah

Gone from me is my authority

Khuthoohu faghulloohu

[Allah will say], "Seize him and shackle him

Thumma aljaheema salloohu

Then into Hellfire drive him

Thumma fee silsilatin tharʿuha sabʿoona thiraʿan faoslukoohu

Then into a chain whose length is seventy cubits insert him

Innahu kana la yuminu biAllahi alʿatheemi

Indeed, he did not used to believe in Allah, the Most Great

Wala yahuddu ʿala taʿami almiskeeni

Nor did he encourage the feeding of the poor

Falaysa lahu alyawma hahuna hameemun

So there is not for him here this Day any devoted friend

Wala taʿamun illa min ghisleenin

Nor any food except from the discharge of wounds

La yakuluhu illa alkhatioona

None will eat it except the sinners

Fala oqsimu bima tubsiroona

So I swear by what you see

Wama la tubsiroona

And what you do not see

Innahu laqawlu rasoolin kareemin

[That] indeed, the Qur'an is the word of a noble Messenger

Wama huwa biqawli shaʿirin qaleelan ma tuminoona

And it is not the word of a poet; little do you believe

Wala biqawli kahinin qaleelan ma tathakkaroona

Nor the word of a soothsayer; little do you remember

Tanzeelun min rabbi alʿalameena

[It is] a revelation from the Lord of the worlds

Walaw taqawwala ʿalayna baʿda alaqaweeli

And if Muhammad had made up about Us some [false] sayings

Laakhathna minhu bialyameeni

We would have seized him by the right hand

Thumma laqataʿna minhu alwateena

Then We would have cut from him the aorta

Fama minkum min ahadin ʿanhu hajizeena

And there is no one of you who could prevent [Us] from him

Wainnahu latathkiratun lilmuttaqeena

And indeed, the Qur'an is a reminder for the righteous

Wainna lanaʿlamu anna minkum mukaththibeena

And indeed, We know that among you are deniers

Wainnahu lahasratun ʿala alkafireena

And indeed, it will be [a cause of] regret upon the disbelievers

Wainnahu lahaqqu alyaqeeni

And indeed, it is the truth of certainty

Fasabbih biismi rabbika alʿatheemi

So exalt the name of your Lord, the Most Great
