Surah Al-Qiyama in Arabic and English

بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

75:1

لَآ أُقۡسِمُ بِيَوۡمِ ٱلۡقِيَٰمَةِ ﴿١﴾

La oqsimu biyawmi alqiyamati

I swear by the Day of Resurrection

75:2

وَلَآ أُقۡسِمُ بِٱلنَّفۡسِ ٱللَّوَّامَةِ ﴿٢﴾

Wala oqsimu bialnnafsi allawwamati

And I swear by the reproaching soul [to the certainty of resurrection]

75:3

أَيَحۡسَبُ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ أَلَّن نَّجۡمَعَ عِظَامَهُۥ ﴿٣﴾

Ayahsabu alinsanu allan najmaʿa ʿithamahu

Does man think that We will not assemble his bones

75:4

بَلَىٰ قَٰدِرِينَ عَلَىٰٓ أَن نُّسَوِّيَ بَنَانَهُۥ ﴿٤﴾

Bala qadireena ʿala an nusawwiya bananahu

Yes. [We are] Able [even] to proportion his fingertips

75:5

بَلۡ يُرِيدُ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ لِيَفۡجُرَ أَمَامَهُۥ ﴿٥﴾

Bal yureedu alinsanu liyafjura amamahu

But man desires to continue in sin

75:6

يَسۡـَٔلُ أَيَّانَ يَوۡمُ ٱلۡقِيَٰمَةِ ﴿٦﴾

Yasalu ayyana yawmu alqiyamati

He asks, "When is the Day of Resurrection

75:7

فَإِذَا بَرِقَ ٱلۡبَصَرُ ﴿٧﴾

Faitha bariqa albasaru

So when vision is dazzled

75:8

وَخَسَفَ ٱلۡقَمَرُ ﴿٨﴾

Wakhasafa alqamaru

And the moon darkens

75:9

وَجُمِعَ ٱلشَّمۡسُ وَٱلۡقَمَرُ ﴿٩﴾

Wajumiʿa alshshamsu waalqamaru

And the sun and the moon are joined

يَقُولُ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ يَوۡمَئِذٍ أَيۡنَ ٱلۡمَفَرُّ ﴿١٠﴾

Yaqoolu alinsanu yawmaithin ayna almafarru

Man will say on that Day, "Where is the [place of] escape

كَلَّا لَا وَزَرَ ﴿١١﴾

Kalla la wazara

No! There is no refuge

إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ يَوۡمَئِذٍ ٱلۡمُسۡتَقَرُّ ﴿١٢﴾

Ila rabbika yawmaithin almustaqarru

To your Lord, that Day, is the [place of] permanence

يُنَبَّؤُاْ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ يَوۡمَئِذِۭ بِمَا قَدَّمَ وَأَخَّرَ ﴿١٣﴾

Yunabbao alinsanu yawmaithin bima qaddama waakhkhara

Man will be informed that Day of what he sent ahead and kept back

بَلِ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ عَلَىٰ نَفۡسِهِۦ بَصِيرَةٞ ﴿١٤﴾

Bali alinsanu ʿala nafsihi baseeratun

Rather, man, against himself, will be a witness

وَلَوۡ أَلۡقَىٰ مَعَاذِيرَهُۥ ﴿١٥﴾

Walaw alqa maʿatheerahu

Even if he presents his excuses

لَا تُحَرِّكۡ بِهِۦ لِسَانَكَ لِتَعۡجَلَ بِهِۦٓ ﴿١٦﴾

La tuharrik bihi lisanaka litaʿjala bihi

Move not your tongue with it, [O Muhammad], to hasten with recitation of the Qur'an

إِنَّ عَلَيۡنَا جَمۡعَهُۥ وَقُرۡءَانَهُۥ ﴿١٧﴾

Inna ʿalayna jamʿahu waquranahu

Indeed, upon Us is its collection [in your heart] and [to make possible] its recitation

فَإِذَا قَرَأۡنَٰهُ فَٱتَّبِعۡ قُرۡءَانَهُۥ ﴿١٨﴾

Faitha qaranahu faittabiʿ quranahu

So when We have recited it [through Gabriel], then follow its recitation

ثُمَّ إِنَّ عَلَيۡنَا بَيَانَهُۥ ﴿١٩﴾

Thumma inna ʿalayna bayanahu

Then upon Us is its clarification [to you]

كَلَّا بَلۡ تُحِبُّونَ ٱلۡعَاجِلَةَ ﴿٢٠﴾

Kalla bal tuhibboona alʿajilata

No! But you love the immediate

وَتَذَرُونَ ٱلۡأٓخِرَةَ ﴿٢١﴾

Watatharoona alakhirata

And leave the Hereafter

وُجُوهٞ يَوۡمَئِذٖ نَّاضِرَةٌ ﴿٢٢﴾

Wujoohun yawmaithin nadiratun

[Some] faces, that Day, will be radiant

إِلَىٰ رَبِّهَا نَاظِرَةٞ ﴿٢٣﴾

Ila rabbiha nathiratun

Looking at their Lord

وَوُجُوهٞ يَوۡمَئِذِۭ بَاسِرَةٞ ﴿٢٤﴾

Wawujoohun yawmaithin basiratun

And [some] faces, that Day, will be contorted

تَظُنُّ أَن يُفۡعَلَ بِهَا فَاقِرَةٞ ﴿٢٥﴾

Tathunnu an yufʿala biha faqiratun

Expecting that there will be done to them [something] backbreaking

كَلَّآ إِذَا بَلَغَتِ ٱلتَّرَاقِيَ ﴿٢٦﴾

Kalla itha balaghati alttaraqiya

No! When the soul has reached the collar bones

وَقِيلَ مَنۡۜ رَاقٖ ﴿٢٧﴾

Waqeela man raqin

And it is said, "Who will cure [him]

وَظَنَّ أَنَّهُ ٱلۡفِرَاقُ ﴿٢٨﴾

Wathanna annahu alfiraqu

And the dying one is certain that it is the [time of] separation

وَٱلۡتَفَّتِ ٱلسَّاقُ بِٱلسَّاقِ ﴿٢٩﴾

Wailtaffati alssaqu bialssaqi

And the leg is wound about the leg

إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ يَوۡمَئِذٍ ٱلۡمَسَاقُ ﴿٣٠﴾

Ila rabbika yawmaithin almasaqu

To your Lord, that Day, will be the procession

فَلَا صَدَّقَ وَلَا صَلَّىٰ ﴿٣١﴾

Fala saddaqa wala salla

And the disbeliever had not believed, nor had he prayed

وَلَٰكِن كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ ﴿٣٢﴾

Walakin kaththaba watawalla

But [instead], he denied and turned away

ثُمَّ ذَهَبَ إِلَىٰٓ أَهۡلِهِۦ يَتَمَطَّىٰٓ ﴿٣٣﴾

Thumma thahaba ila ahlihi yatamatta

And then he went to his people, swaggering [in pride]

أَوۡلَىٰ لَكَ فَأَوۡلَىٰ ﴿٣٤﴾

Awla laka faawla

Woe to you, and woe

ثُمَّ أَوۡلَىٰ لَكَ فَأَوۡلَىٰٓ ﴿٣٥﴾

Thumma awla laka faawla

Then woe to you, and woe

أَيَحۡسَبُ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ أَن يُتۡرَكَ سُدًى ﴿٣٦﴾

Ayahsabu alinsanu an yutraka sudan

Does man think that he will be left neglected

أَلَمۡ يَكُ نُطۡفَةٗ مِّن مَّنِيّٖ يُمۡنَىٰ ﴿٣٧﴾

Alam yaku nutfatan min manayyin yumna

Had he not been a sperm from semen emitted

ثُمَّ كَانَ عَلَقَةٗ فَخَلَقَ فَسَوَّىٰ ﴿٣٨﴾

Thumma kana ʿalaqatan fakhalaqa fasawwa

Then he was a clinging clot, and [Allah] created [his form] and proportioned [him]

فَجَعَلَ مِنۡهُ ٱلزَّوۡجَيۡنِ ٱلذَّكَرَ وَٱلۡأُنثَىٰٓ ﴿٣٩﴾

Fajaʿala minhu alzzawjayni alththakara waalontha

And made of him two mates, the male and the female

أَلَيۡسَ ذَٰلِكَ بِقَٰدِرٍ عَلَىٰٓ أَن يُحۡـِۧيَ ٱلۡمَوۡتَىٰ ﴿٤٠﴾

Alaysa thalika biqadirin ʿala an yuhyiya almawta

Is not that [Creator] Able to give life to the dead
