Praying in congregation: 27 times the reward
Praying with others, at the mosque or at home with your family, multiplies the reward and builds community.
The reward
Prayer in congregation is twenty-seven degrees better than prayer alone.
Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim
Whoever purifies himself in his house and then walks to one of the houses of Allah to perform an obligation, one of his steps erases a sin and the other raises him a degree.
Sahih Muslim
How to build the habit
- Pick one prayer you can realistically pray at the mosque every day, such as Maghrib or Isha.
- Go on Friday for Jumuah and stay a little longer to meet people.
- Pray in congregation at home with your family or flatmates when the mosque is far. That is also jamaah.
- At work or university, find other Muslims and pray Dhuhr or Asr together.
See the duas for entering the mosque and after the athan.

Frequently asked questions
Is praying at home in congregation rewarded?
Yes. Two or more people praying together form a congregation, and most scholars say the reward of jamaah applies. The mosque has additional reward for walking there.
