How to pray all five prayers on time

When the Prophet ﷺ was asked which deed is most beloved to Allah, he did not name something rare or difficult. He named the prayer at its time.

Why praying on time matters

Abdullah ibn Masud asked the Prophet ﷺ: Which deed is most beloved to Allah? He said: Prayer at its proper time.

Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim

Faitha qadaytumu alssalata faothkuroo Allaha qiyaman waquʿoodan waʿala junoobikum faitha itmanantum faaqeemoo alssalata inna alssalata kanat ʿala almumineena kitaban mawqootan

And when you have completed the prayer, remember Allah standing, sitting, or [lying] on your sides. But when you become secure, re-establish [regular] prayer. Indeed, prayer has been decreed upon the believers a decree of specified times

Quran 4:103 · Surah An-Nisa

The prayer is the first deed a person will be asked about on the Day of Judgement (Abu Dawud, at-Tirmidhi). Five prayers a day are also five moments to pause, reset and come back to what matters.

Steps that help

  1. Know your times. Turn on prayer time notifications or the athan in the Hadaff app.
  2. Pray at the start of the time. Waiting until "later" is how prayers get missed.
  3. Plan your day around the prayers, not the other way round. Put them in your calendar if you work or study.
  4. Keep a prayer mat and a place to pray at work, at university or in your bag.
  5. Learn the times that clash with your routine, for example Asr at work or Isha in winter, and decide in advance where and when you will pray.
  6. Make up missed prayers as soon as you remember, and do not let one missed prayer turn into a missed day.
  7. Track all five. Seeing which prayer you miss most often tells you what to work on.

Start small

If you currently pray only some prayers, add one at a time. Fajr and Isha are usually the hardest, so many people start with Dhuhr, Asr and Maghrib, then add Fajr.

Track your habits in Hadaff

Add any habit to your Hadaff habit tracker, tick it off each day and watch your streak grow. Prayer times with athan reminders, athkar with a counter and a khatma plan are built in. Free, no ads, no ad tracking.

Frequently asked questions

Can I combine prayers?

Combining Dhuhr with Asr and Maghrib with Isha is allowed when travelling, and many scholars allow it in cases of real need. It should not become a daily habit without a reason. Ask a scholar you trust about your situation.

What if I miss a prayer?

Pray it as soon as you remember. The Prophet ﷺ said that whoever forgets a prayer or sleeps through it should pray it when he remembers it (Sahih Muslim).
