Waking up early: the blessing of the morning

The Prophet ﷺ made a special dua for the early hours of the day. Waking up for Fajr and staying up gives you the most productive hours.

O Allah, bless my nation in their early mornings.

Abu Dawud and at-Tirmidhi

The Prophet ﷺ disliked sleeping before Isha and talking after it (al-Bukhari, Muslim), and after Fajr he would sit in his place until the sun had risen well (Sahih Muslim).

A plan to become a morning person

  1. Fix your wake-up time to Fajr and keep it at weekends too.
  2. Move your bedtime back by 15 minutes each week.
  3. No phone in bed. Charge it outside the bedroom.
  4. Get daylight in the morning: open the window or go for a walk after sunrise.
  5. Plan a morning routine: Fajr, morning athkar, a page of Quran, then your most important task.
  6. Track the habit and your streak.
