Morning and evening athkar: a daily habit

The morning and evening adhkar take about ten minutes each. They are a shield for the day and the night and one of the most powerful daily habits a Muslim can have.

Ya ayyuha allatheena amanoo othkuroo Allaha thikran katheeran Wasabbihoohu bukratan waaseelan

O you who have believed, remember Allah with much remembrance And exalt Him morning and afternoon

Quran 33:41-42 · Surah Al-Ahzab

When to say them

Some of the virtues

Whoever says in the morning and evening: Bismillahil-ladhi la yadurru maa ismihi shayun fil-ardi wa la fis-sama, wa huwas-samiul-alim, three times, nothing will harm him.

Abu Dawud and at-Tirmidhi

Whoever says SubhanAllahi wa bihamdihi a hundred times in the morning and evening, no one will come on the Day of Resurrection with anything better, except someone who said the same or more.

Sahih Muslim

Make it stick

  1. Attach them to a prayer: morning athkar right after Fajr, evening athkar after Asr.
  2. Use a counter for the phrases said 3, 7, 33 or 100 times.
  3. Learn them gradually. Read them from the app at first, then memorize one at a time.
  4. Turn on a reminder for the time you usually forget.
