Gratitude (shukr): a daily habit
Allah promises more to those who are grateful. Gratitude is said with the tongue, felt in the heart and shown by using His blessings in obedience.
Waith taaththana rabbukum lain shakartum laazeedannakum walain kafartum inna ʿathabee lashadeedun
And [remember] when your Lord proclaimed, 'If you are grateful, I will surely increase you [in favor]; but if you deny, indeed, My punishment is severe
Quran 14:7 · Surah Ibrahim
Allah is pleased with His servant who eats a meal and praises Him for it, and drinks a drink and praises Him for it.
Sahih Muslim
Look at those below you and do not look at those above you, for that is more likely to keep you from belittling the blessings of Allah upon you.
Sahih Muslim
How wonderful is the affair of the believer, for all of it is good. If something good happens to him, he is grateful, and that is good for him. If something bad happens to him, he is patient, and that is good for him.
Sahih Muslim
A daily gratitude habit
- Say Alhamdulillah after eating, drinking, waking up and when you hear good news.
- Name three blessings every night before sleeping, small and big.
- Prostrate in thanks (sujud ash-shukr) when something good happens, as the Prophet ﷺ did (Abu Dawud).
- Thank people. "Whoever does not thank people does not thank Allah" (Abu Dawud, at-Tirmidhi).
- Use the blessing well: health for worship, wealth for charity, time for good.
Ready-made Alhamdulillah captions are in Alhamdulillah quotes.
